We all have heard the phrase before, ‘Jack of all trades, Master of none’. It’s often refer to a person who has many different knowledge and skills but not an expert on one. We also call this person a generalist rather than a specialist. Though it is nothing wrong to learn, explore and be expose to as many things in life. In fact, it is always good to have extra knowledge and skills about other things.

However, there will come a time where we need to choose which of the gifts and skills we want to focus and become an expert at it. This does not mean we need to throw out and not practice other skills but rather to prioritize on one. Ask yourself, ‘Which gift I think is my biggest strength and which one I truly enjoy the most?.

Once you figure it out, next step is to nurture and develop it to bring out the maximum potential of that gift. Only then, you can be outstanding in your field and be the top 10% who is an expert in that field. The time will come when opportunity will start knocking at your door for your knowledge and people will start coming to you for the skills you possess.

Become an expert in your field and success will follow.

Robert Kihlstrom

When I was younger, I love to do many things. I learned playing the piano, guitar and drums, and playing different kind of sports. And when I get older, I began to realized I need to focus on one thing to achieve greatness. And out of all the things I can do and enjoy, I focus on speaking. We can see all successful people focuses on one thing. Maradona focuses on football, Stan Lee focuses on comics and Michael Jackson focuses on music, all of them focus on one and become an expert at their field. Bruce Lee once said, ‘I fear not the man who practice 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who practice one kick 10,000 times. Therefore, start today by Focusing On One.
