For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believe in him may not perish but may have eternal life.John 3:16
What happened on the Cross of Jesus?
Before answering the question, we must first understand that Jesus’s death on the cross was no accident, he was following his divine purpose and destiny.
Why did he have to die?
In the book of Hebrew 9:22, it says ‘Without the shedding of blood, there will be no forgiveness of sins.’ Back before the time of Jesus, the Jews are required to bring each a lamb to the temple to be slaughtered yearly, the lamb has to be unblemished, meaning the lamb has to be clean without any spots. Only then, the lamb is qualify to be slaughtered for its blood to cover the sin of the people.
Therefore, it clearly shows that the shedding of blood is needed in order for forgiveness of sins. Today, there is no longer the need of the lamb as Jesus, the lamb of God became the ultimate sacrifice, died on the cross once and for all to shed his blood for you and me so that we may be forgiven and have eternal life.
So what truly happened on the cross of Jesus? the answer is that on the cross of Jesus, there was the GREAT EXCHANGE. You see, all of us have sin and fall short of the Glory of God, the punishment of sin is death. We are all doom to die but God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to take our place instead. On the cross, Jesus became poor so that we might become rich, Jesus became sick so that we might be healed, Jesus was broken so that we might become whole, Jesus became weak so that we might be strong and Jesus became SIN so that we might become the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD. Therefore, Jesus died with our sins so that we are alive in his righteousness.
He DIED so that we may LIVE1 Thessalonians 5:10
In his death, there is victory as we are no longer in bondage but we are free in Jesus. We are no longer in defeat and condemnation but victorious and accepted in the eyes of the Father. We no longer have to work for our salvation for it is a free gift of God that we have received by grace through faith that we are SAVED. Have a Blessed Good Friday Everyone!
