You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.

Jim Rohn

How many of us are affected by the things going on around us?

During the happy seasons, for instances, passing your school papers, got your bank loan approved or hitting your sales target, all of us can be happy but when the rubber hits the road, your business is failing, your job is hanging by a tread or your products being rejected, most of us suddenly feel the crunched.

As we can see, we are easily affected by what’s going on around us. Most of the time, the seasons from the outside can determine our reasons in the inside. When it’s a tough day and therefore, we got a reason to by upset. When it’s an exciting day, therefore, we got a reason to be happy. But here’s the thing, we have allowed the seasons that we can’t control affect our happiness.

In our life, there are things we can’t control of, for example like the weather, it rains when it wants to, it shines when it wants to… The seasons, from summer, it can turn to autumn, then turn to winter. In your workplace, we can’t change our bossy bosses or our unhelpful colleagues… In your colleges, we can’t change our boring lecturer or annoying friends, but we can change is ourselves. Let’s not allow what’s going on the outside control what’s going on the inside of us. We can choose to be happy as we want to be no matter what seasons.

The key here is that though we can’t change the seasons but we can change our reasons. Your sales just got rejected, we got every reason to be upset but we can choose not to be and to see rejection as a redirection to something better.

I heard a story from Jim Rohn and it’s about two salesmen. It goes like this, both of them got out of bed. The first salesman got up and look out the window, it was raining heavily, he then said ‘Oh look, it’s raining’, so therefore, I can’t go out to do sales. Whereas, the second salesman got up and look out the window, it was also raining heavily, but he then said ‘Oh look, it’s raining, I can do sales cause other salesman are sleeping’. Now, what are the difference between the two salesmen? both of them are facing the same season of rain but the second one has better a reason.

In your life as well, no matter what seasons you are facing, you may not be able to change it, but you are able to change your reasons, change yourself, change the way you look at things, that eventhough you are in the mist of a storm, you will still be able to smile. Never allow the seasons to control our reasons, instead let our reasons determine the seasons and we will begin to see better things in our life.
