Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

Today I would like to encourage you with a poem by Maya Angelou called “Still I Rise.” In time of difficulty, let’s always be reminded that our defeat is not the final statement because we can rise up, we can get up and we can stand up again from this mess.

STILL I RISE – MAYA ANGELOU

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Don’t Compare your situation to somebody else’s. You’re not running their race. You’re running your own race.

Joel Osteen

There is no denying the fact that we as human beings we have a tendency to compare things around us. We like to compare which food is the best, which singer is the best, which computer is the best, etc…

Although there is nothing wrong with comparing, each one of us have our own favourite, perspective, opinion and choices but just don’t make it into a fight with these things. Respect other people choices as well.

But here’s my thing, we compare the things around us to the point that we even compare ourselves with others. We compare who is smarter, who is taller, who is more creative, etc… among our friends, colleagues, our families and simply anyone we know in our life. This will eventually end up with jealousy, hatred or thinking we might not be good enough.

And here’s the key, we should not compare with others. Don’t compare people’s journey with yours. Run your own race in life. Each one of us have our own finish line. Each one of us have our own destination to go. Each one of us have our own destiny to fulfilled. Don’t compare your chapter 1 with other’s chapter 25. Don’t try to run their race. Don’t try to reach their destiny. You have your own destiny in life.

You are at your best when you are being yourself. Jackie Chan, a famous action movie star once said, “I do not want to become the next Bruce Lee, I just want to be Jackie Chan.” As we can see, you can be the best version of yourself by just being yourself.

In closing, remember, run your own race at your own pace and don’t compare with others who have accomplished more. Here’s the thing, there will always be someone smarter, cooler and greater than you. But the key here is to focus on your destination, run and your race and eventually you too can reach your own destiny in life.

Every story has an END, but in life every ending is a new BEGINNING

Anonymous

It may seems like the end of the world, you may have lost your job, you may have lost your business, you may lost your loved ones, you may have lost your house and you may have just lost everything.

It may seems like your life has taken you to a dead end. There is no where to turn. With this pandemic situation happening around the world, it affects from the smallest cell in a human body to the biggest companies losing in the economy. The future is so uncertain, the present is so depressing and the good days of the past seems so distant.

Here’s the thing, though it may look like the end of the road, it is actually just the beginning of something new. A full-stop in a sentence doesn’t mean the story is over but to continue writing a new sentence, a new paragraph, a new story… We may be experiencing a full-stop in our journey in life, but it is also an opportunity to create something new in your journey.

Therefore, try not to see this bad situation as the end, but a beginning to do something new and great for the future. Today was my last day working for a company. The company which I was working for also been affected badly due to Covid-19, it asked its staffs to take unpaid leaves, it let go some of the staffs, etc… I resigned and serve my notice during this time of crisis. It may look like the end of my career as it is hard to find job opportunities.

However, I choose not to let it affect me. I decided to start something new, to begin a fresh, to look at things from a positive perspective point of view, to make the most out of this crisis. And I believe you too can do it too. Don’t let the circumstances of things destroy the dreams that you have inside of you. Keep it alive for every ending is a new beginning.

You are the HERO of your own story

Joseph Campbell

Now when we try to imagine how a ‘Hero’ would be like, it would normally be someone who is a good-looking, strong, extremely smart, skillful and talented, someone who doesn’t make mistakes and it is like someone who is almost perfect in every single way.

But we have forgotten, what makes them a hero of their own story is not how great and powerful they are, but how they overcome the problems in their story. Just like in every hero movies that we watched, though it seems like they are almost perfect in every single way, the story always show in the climax of how the hero overcome the problem, the villain and the obstacles in the story.

A few examples could be:- Spiderman facing off the Green Goblin, Superman facing off with Lex Lurther, Batman facing off against the Joker, The Avengers against Thanos, etc…

Marvel just told us how it decided which heroes to kill in ...
Source: bgr.com

Therefore, as you can see, all of the hero faces problems as well, but what make them a hero is not how great they are but how they overcame those challenges. In fact, that’s what make this hero movies so interesting. I can’t imagine a hero movie without any problem, everything is just smooth sailing. It would just make the show not interesting to watch.

Here’s the point, in our life as well, what makes us a hero in our story is not how brilliant we are, how talented we are, how strong we are but how we will overcome the challenges in life. The thing is this, there will always be a villain, there will always be obstacles and problem that we can’t bear to face but a hero will not give up, a hero will not give in, a hero will always try to defeat the villain, to solve the problem and to make the world a better place.

Therefore, you too can be the hero of your own story. Each time when we are in the midst of our villains and our problems, know that we are the hero and we won’t back down till we find a way to defeat the villains and to overcome the problems. Once all these things are defeated, know that you have just written a chapter of your hero’s story. Just remember, be the hero of your own story.

We are stronger together than we are alone

Walter Payton

To go through this crisis, we should all work together.

To go through this problem, we should all stand together

To go through this difficulty, we should all help each other

To go through this tough times, we should all care for each other

To win this war, we should act as a team

If we were to point fingers at each other, if we were to blame each other, if we were not cooperating with each other, if we were fighting with each other, if we were going against each other, we will not stop this crisis. This is not the time to be fighting against each other, right now, we are facing one common enemy which is Covid-19 that has caused problems from one’s health to affecting the economy.

Therefore, we should no longer dissect and differentiate everyone, this virus has no exception for any race, age, religion, status, etc.. it just attack if it got the chance.

Hence, we all should work together as one world to stop this virus, Stay home, stay safe and watch your personal hygiene. We would like to personally thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who is risking their life to fight this common enemy. Let’s work together and do our part and stay home. We can do this, we are stronger together, we can overcome it…

I would just like to encourage and remind everyone to take care and stay safe. Remember to wash your hands often and keep your distance. Sometimes, the little thing that we do will often affect the bigger things in life. Hence, let’s practice social distancing today so we are able to have social gathering soon in the future. Sacrifice today to enjoy the future tomorrow. Therefore, let’s work together to stop the spread, to flatten the curve and to protect everyone around you.

Here is a short video of how social distancing works from Ohio Department of Health.

Be an ENCOURAGER. The world has enough critics already

Dave Willis

When we look around the world with this current pandemic of Covid-19 happening, many people across the globe are losing their jobs, are closing down their businesses, are struggling to survive, are waiting when are their next meal, are thinking how to feed their family, etc…

And with all this happenings will cause people to be sad, to be depressed, to be disappointed and to be feeling down. In times like this, let us be an Encourager. When we see someone is down, talk to them, listen to them, cheer them up, encourage them and lift their spirits up again.

We are all living in a very difficult times, let us be more considerate and compassionate. It is not easy for people to lose their jobs and finances, though we may not be able to help a lot but what we can do is to give them some words of encouragement. Sometimes, what people need is someone to listen to their needs; sometimes, what people need is to hear a word of encouragement. Though we might feel our encouragement don’t matter much but it matter so much to the person who needs it.

In closing, I want encourage all of you not to lose faith, not to lose hope, I just want all of you to know that everything will work out well in the end, please stay strong, stay healthy and stay safe.

How Do I 'Take Up My Cross?' - Dr. Roger Barrier
Source: crosswalk.com

On the cross, Jesus wins through losing, triumphs through defeat, achieves power through weakness, comes to wealth through giving all away.

Tim Keller

First off, a Blessed Good Friday to everyone!

On this day, let us remember of our Lord Jesus on what he did on the cross of calvary.

It was the day that the enemy thought that they have won, that they have defeated the son of God, that Jesus was dead.

However, it was a beautiful twist in the end, the victory is not based on who is alive on that day, but it was based on who died on that day.

When Jesus utter the words, “IT IS FINISHED,” he has already won it all for us. One of the greatest evangelist Billy Graham said, “The cross shows us the seriousness of our sin, but it also shows us the immeasurable love of God.

Why was it called a victory? Why was it called LOVE?

It is because the penalty of our sin is death. However, for God so loved the world, he gave his only son to die for our place. It was a victory because, at the cross, there was the greatest exchange taking place… All of our sins was placed upon Jesus and his righteousness was placed on us. All of sins, past, present and future, all of our debt has been paid and forgiven at the cross of Calvary.

And this is why we have the victory of the cross.. He became sin so that we might become the righteousness of God, he became poor so that we might become rich, he become sick so that we might be healed and he became broke so that we might be whole.

Today, It is Good Friday, let us remember his love for us and thank you for the cross. Amen.

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses

Alphonse Karr

In this time of crisis, there are many reasons why we should be upset, angry and complain over the current situation. Everywhere across the globe, people are losing their jobs and closing down their businesses, more and more people are getting sick and dying as well as people are experiencing mental stress and pressure from what’s going on around them.

From all these situations, it is definitely a good reason why we should be upset and complaining about the current events. However, even though everything is looking bad right now, we shouldn’t be negative about the situation, instead we should be hopeful about the situation. To maintain a positive attitude over the negative situation. One of the way is to maintain a grateful heart instead of a grumbling soul.

Here’s are some things that we can be thankful and grateful for:-

  1. Grateful for being healthy
  2. Grateful for having food on your table
  3. Grateful for having the time to spend with your family
  4. Grateful for having a home
  5. Grateful for having great companionship and friends
  6. Grateful for the fresh air
  7. Grateful for all the frontliners sacrificing themselves and their time to treat the patients
  8. Grateful for having life each day as each day is a gift

Though we may LOCKDOWN from the outside world, we can take the opportunity to FREE UP our world in the inside

David Ng

Most of the countries around the world are experiencing a period of ‘Lockdown,’ whereby some countries minimize the movement of the public whereas other countries practice a stricter rule of movement.

However, though we not allowed to go out, we are allowed to stay in. Some might feel stuck staying at their home for a very long time and it might even feel like a prison for some of the people.

But here’s the thing, it’s all the in the matter of perspective, the way we see this lockdown period. Instead of seeing that we are stuck at home, see it that we are safe at home. Instead of seeing that we are stuck at home, see it as we are free at home.

Therefore, we can take advantage of the situation. To take the opportunity in a time of difficulty. Hence, since we are mostly at home, we could now spend more quality time with your family, your children and your parents, to have dinner with them, to have a long and meaningful conversation with them, spend time watching television together, etc…

We could also spend quality time doing our favourite hobbies, things we wish we could do but could not because of work, but now, we could. Do some of your favourite things in life, sing if you enjoy singing, dance if you enjoy dancing, paint if you enjoy painting. Personally, I love to play music and now I am taking this time to practice music again.

Another thing we could do is to learn a new skill or expand your mind. It is an opportunity to pick up a new skill, learn a new language, learn a new dish to cook, read a new book, etc… anything that improves us in our daily lives. For when the situation improves, we are coming out with a new skill or a new knowledge that will help us in our career in the future.

As we can see, though we are lockdown from the outside, we are free in doing a lot of things inside our house as long as we find good activities to do. Therefore, I do hope all of you enjoy your time at home, use your time wisely, take care and be safe.

Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of HOPE!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, I would like to share a poem written by Catherine Pulsifer called ‘A Poem of Hope’.

I believe in times like this, all we need is a little HOPE to carry us forward. I hope this poem will encourage and inspire in your daily life. Take care and stay safe.

A Poem Of Hope

When life is getting you down, and you need a little hope.
Look deep down inside yourself, and you’ll find the way to cope.

When life is getting you down, and you need a little love.
Go to the person whom you are the closest, as the rest they are above.

When life is getting you down, and all you need is a laugh.
Find the friend that makes you smile, they may even be your staff.

When life is getting you down, don’t allow it so.
Change the way you think of life, and life will be better, you know.

When life is getting you down, don’t sit and mope
Take action and always have hope.

When life is getting you down, take time to pray
Don’t allow yourself to frown God will help you see the blessings of the day.

Faith will take you far greater things than fear ever could

Anonymous

In this time of difficulty, hardships and disappointments, it is easy to throw in the towel, easy to give up our dreams and believing that things won’t work out for good.

That my friends is FEAR talking to you, Fear will says that we can never make it, that we would fail again and especially in this current situation, Fear says that we might be the next Covid-19 victim.

It is important who do we choose to listen to. Fear may say all these things to you but it is our choice whether we want to believe it or not.

In times like this, we should not hear what FEAR says but listen to what FAITH says. Faith is the key that will unlock all possibilities that we can dream of. In my favourite book, it says that “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Let’s choose Faith over fear. To have faith that this unfortunate situation will come to an end, to have faith that all of us and our loved ones will strong and healthy, to have faith that our economy will improves really soon and to have faith that everything will work out for good!

Hence, in closing, take courage and have faith. We are going to see this through together and coming out of it victorious!
